Look, I don’t know about the rest of the you, but in my house sleep is a premium. What do I mean by that? Basically, that if I’m actually getting a full night of sleep then chances are my kids are nowhere to be found. Where could they be? Mayhaps, by some miracle they decided it would be a good idea to actually spend the entire night in their own bed. HAHAHA Who am I even trying to kid? They never do that. If they’re spending the night elsewhere, then a relaxing night of sleep will be had… minus the whole worrying if they’re behaving, or sleeping, or will come home sleep-deprived and miserable (like me most days!).

Allow me to tell you what my nights consist of. Put the kids to sleep at 8, fight to make them go to sleep for 3.4 hours or so. Catch up on like an hour of TV with Sarah. If were lucky and one of the girls doesn’t wake up. Chances are Sophia wakes up, trudges into the room with us and passes out atop myself or Sarah. Finish show, attempt to head to bed. Lay Sophia down. Chances are she pops up within 20 minutes and stumbles into our bed. Immediately wedging herself between us. If I’m too lazy to move her OR myself, I hang off the edge of the bed, clinging for dear life and hoping I don’t find myself on the floor.
Recently, Maddie has been joining the fray. I wake up with not one, but two kids, nestled up against me or on top of me. It’s a delight LET.ME.TELL.YOU. Did I mention the dog? He’s somewhere laying on my legs, stepping on my crotch, or joining the girls on my chest. Doesn’t that sound like the best way to sleep?! I KNOW! Aren’t I lucky? There are also nights when Sophia ends up in our bed and I hear Maddie start to stir, so off I go! How do those nights go? Me laying next to Maddie, hoping she’ll quickly fall asleep and I can escape to my already-crowded bed. What usually happens? I sleep next to her, getting kicked, poked, prodded, and jarred awake all night. What a magical time to be alive!
I’ll be honest, it’s not only the kids’ fault that I don’t get more than like five or so hours of sleep a night. I also have A LOT going on in the things to get done department. Aside from writing this blog, writing posts and recording podcast episodes for The Poppin’ Bottles Dad-Cast, as well recording and editing the YouTube videos we do, I also write on the side. So, trying to juggle kids, wife, life, three freelance gigs, and blogs and shows is, umm, a lot.
