One of the first questions expecting parents get asked, aside from the due date, is “are you going to find out the sex??”. It’s an interesting debate, both for the to-be parents, as well as for family members, friends, and those random belly-touching-strangers-you-meet-on-the-street (Sarah doesn’t understand why they keep touching MY belly). When we had Sophia, we found out what we were having. We found out, but only told our immediate family members what we were having. It came out at the baby shower that we were having a girl, but at that point, we were so close to the due date that we didn’t mind our cover being blown. Well we didn’t mind THAT much… When people asked why I wanted to find out, I gave them the most honest answer I could think of: “I have to mentally prepare myself IF it’s going to be a girl!!!” And, of course we had Sophia, thus disproving my claim that “I don’t make girls”. It was true, though. Knowing you’re going to have a girl, especially for a dad, leaves you needing to plan early. How am I going to scare boys away, when can she date, and how the heck do I raise a girl?! The answers: Act like a psychopath, she’s NEVER dating, and I have no idea what I’m doing…
So, now that we’re expecting with Baby Brownie Numero Dos, we’re being asked the same question. Are we going to find out? Umm, YES! I suppose I could throw out the same reasons as before: that I need to mentally prepare myself to have a girl. Which, is kind of true. After all, if we’re going to have two girls, I need to get my exit strategy planned for when I have two teenage daughters in the house at the same time… I mean, I grew up with two sisters, I KNOW what that’s like! I kid. Really, it will just be nice to be able to plan ahead. Figure out if we need to get an entire new wardrobe if it’s a boy, or, if we should start unpacking the 387 totes of girls clothes we currently have stacked in our house.
We’ll be going for the ultrasound in just over three weeks. It’s a very exciting time for us. Busy, tiring, exciting, nerve-wracking, and any other adjective you can think of. So, we’ll see where we are after the ultrasound and then we’ll really be heading down the home stretch! Wow, the time is already flying by!
